Travel Soccer

Welcome to HF Travel Soccer!

The Viking Travel soccer program gives those players who love the game a chance to test their skills at the next level in a fun, supportive, competitive environment. Our teams play in the Illinois Women's Soccer League (IWSL) and the Young Sportsmen's Soccer League (YSSL) and winter leagues in our area.

Tryouts registration for the 2025-2026  travel soccer season is now open. Thank you to all the dedicated soccer players who attended our tryouts. Tryouts are held in May of each year for the following season (runs from July-May).  Click here for tryout info

Our travel coaches are always looking out for strong, dedicated, coachable players and there might come a time when they need to add to their rosters. If you are interested in attending a team’s practice where the coaches can informally evaluate your player and give you feedback on his/her development, please reach out to Travel Commissioner Sharonda Williams-Wiggins. Sharonda will work with you & the appropriately aged team to set up a time that works for both parties.

Our Travel program exists to provide youth players are more competitive environment with like minded, dedicated players. All HF travel players came from the HF Rec Soccer program and have developed into fierce, hardworking players.

If you are interested in learning more about the HF travel soccer program please reach out to Travel Commissioner Sharonda Williams-Wiggins via e-mail at travel@hfsoccerclub.org.

FAQ

Q: What are the benefits of travel?

  • Certified coaching, team building & camaraderie, strong competition, more opportunities to play, develop & progress in soccer, experienced teammates, goalie training, new competition, and tournaments (so fun!), the team typically stays together longer with consistent coaching.

Q: Where do the teams travel?

  • The HF teams are all in the “south” region of their assigned division. Home games are played on HF Park District fields. Away games are all within a 45 minute drive from the HF community. Tournaments might be 60 minutes, but that is a single weekend commitment.

Q: What is the commitment?

  • When a player makes a travel team they are committing to a year of soccer; Fall, indoor & Spring seasons. In the Fall and Spring you can expect 2 practices weekly with 8-10 games and a tournament in each season. Indoor soccer offers 12 games, 1 practice weekly & 1 tournament. It’s understood that our youth participate in other activities & that is encouraged by coaches. It is imperative families communicate with coaches regarding conflicts and are as committed as they can be.

Q: How are players selected? How many players do you take?

  • Players are selected during a formal tryout process held in the Spring. Coaches assess players on individual skills (passing, ball handling & control, speed), game IQ, teamwork, sportsmanship & coachability. The number of players selected varies by team. As players get older, roster size increases. Our current teams have between 10-13 players . It’s possible for a team to add players mid-year but this is by coach discretion and based on the needs of the team.

Q: What if my player doesn’t make the team?

  • If your player is not selected please continue to play and develop at the recreational level. Additional clinics, indoor league and attending open practices will help your goal to make the team the following year. Players on the bubble might be asked to join the travel team at some practices. Always continue to work hard and put in effort. All players tryout in the Spring, even returning players. You never know what could happen.

Q: What is the cost?

  • The cost varies by team as each team has different needs. Coaches determine a budget pre- season that is followed closely all year. Payment plans are offered for all teams starting in June - October. These can be extended based on need and amounts are split up evenly amongst the players. Fees include all trainings, tournaments, league fees & team activities from Fall through Spring. Uniforms are a separate cost & aren’t required annually if last years uniform still fits.
